Ze-gen to Convert Waste Into Electricity
By Nick January 11, 2008
Ze-gen, a company that’s planning to develop electricity from municipal waste has just raised $2.5 million to start building a full-scale plant. It should have success, as municipal waste in definitely not useful and polluting both land and water and it’s great it can be converted into something useful.
The company has already built a pilot plant in New Bedford Mass, last year and now wants to build a commercial one. Ze-gen’s plant turns waste into syngas ( carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen ), through grasification. The syngas is used as fuel for a power generator.
Patrick Lee, a PinnacleVentures partner stated that “High energy costs, the need for more clean and renewable energy generation, and a growing waste disposal problem have created the ideal environment for the Ze-gen solution,” and it’s a really good thing for the environment.
