USBCell Battery Recharges Via USB
By Nick March 15, 2008

Alkaline batteries are a well-known environmental problem, considering there are almost 15 billion thrown each year and rechargeable ones has such a low success. Now a new battery has been unveiled at CeBit, presented by Moixa Energy, that recharges from any Computer’s USB port. The USBCell also recharges via any NiMH charger and is a standard AA battery, compatible with most electronic devices.
It was also awarded with the Gold award at the IF Product Design ceremony from CeBit, being a really good idea. Hopefully it will have more success than the common rechargeable batteries and will reduce the waste produces by the thrown Alkaline batteries.

isn’t the computers power supply less efficient than a standalone charger ? i can see how this might help for
machines that are on all the time.
This is great. I have Duracell , and the charger is very bulku as compared to the ones you have shown. Two questions though . first How much power output is available from a USB port , second how does the chargers cost compares with each other.
This is a great idea. I already have a wireless mouse that charges the batteries when I plug the supplied usb cord to the mouse and plug up to my laptop.
I am all for rechargeable batteries, canvas bags instead of plastic bags, and solar power for everyone!
