The RuralZED Home With No Emissions
By Nick March 20, 2008

Have you ever heard of The Code For Sustainable Homes? It is a recent super stringent green building rating system launched by the British Government. A Code Six house is a house that has zero carbon emissions and all new houses will have to achieve this level by 2016. ZedFactory, a green building company set their mind on making this dream true.
Their model of the residence is made out of prefab and has absolutely zero emissions. In order to show how this can be made possible, ZedFactory launched RuralZED, Britain’s most affordable green prefab home. It is a wood-frame house that aimes to meet the Code Six requirements. They have realized that a Code Six house might be too expensive for the average buyer and so they have designed a house that is based around the idea of easy upgrade ability.
The company won’t sell you a Code Six house, they will give you a base model with most of the features and then you can buy other upgradeable parts. For instance, the base model, whether it’s a 2 bedroom or a 5 bedroom, it will have heavy insulation, a timber-frame, low-energy and low-water fixtures and a green roof.
If you, as an owner, wish to improve the efficiency of your house, you can buy things such as a passive heat recovery ventilation or a solar hot water module. As a final stage, solar panels, a wind turbine and a rainwater tank will be installed. This should ensure a Code Six house.
The great thing about these homes is that they come with a price tag of about 150,000 pounds and are easy to be built. The first six are being built and the number is expected to rise to about 24 in the not so distant future.
