The Ozone Layer Is Diminishing Rapidly
By Nick January 22, 2008

Ozone is an air pollutant at ground-level, but in the higher levels of atmosphere it prevents harmful ultraviolet radiations from reaching to our planet’s surface. The effects of the solar radiations are the changes in the DNA, many organisms could die and people could present symptoms of skin cancer.
In 1970, expert scientists detected a decrease of the Ozone amount and eventually an ozone hole made its appearance above Antarctica in 1980. Researchers were able to determine what was the cause and the reduction cause
was the chlorofluorocarbon.
Chlorofluorocarbon is a substance used as a cooler in refrigerators, air-conditioners and sprays. When it reaches the ozone layer in the atmosphere, a chemical reaction between these substances eradicates the ozone. With the ozone layer growing thinner, in 1994 the European Council prohibited the production of chlorofluorocarbon-based substances.
There were other attempts in creating CFC-free refrigerators but big companies eliminated them, so until we will know how to protect our planet the ozone layer is brushing up. We hope that the bosses of large industries will wake up and care more about the Earth.
