The First Commercial Waste Heat Generator
By Nick June 2, 2008

The generator makes electricity from residual industrial heat that regularly wastes. The obtained electricity is also very cheap, getting a price of three cents per kW/hr in payback period and about one penny after that. In the process are used patented pressure and heat recovery techniques and needs only 200 degrees Fahrenheit to start generating energy.
The 50kW ElectraTherm Green Machine from the Southern Methodist University from Dallas has already been successfully tested, exceeding the 50kW output predictions. If energy from heat waste would be applied in the US, it could even surpass any form of renewable energy, as the wasted heat actually is the largest source of renewable energy from the US.

It’s a good temporary fix, although I’m not sure they should say that wasted industrial heat is renewable per se. Until we figure out an alternative source that doesn’t come from industrial run-off it does seem like a good use of all the wasted heat.
