Plastic Solar Cells On The Way
By Nick March 21, 2008

A new source of electricity will be available soon thanks to the researchers from the United States and Austria, which announced that good progress has been made regarding the Plastic Solar Cells.
These new developments that seem to be our next most commonly used fuel are an environmentally-friendly version of the inorganic solar cells used so far. They are made of bulk hetero-junction materials comprising semi-conducting polymers and fullerenes, and a very good performance was already demonstrated.
They are a low-cost alternative, and the only problem is the researchers` difficulties in understanding how to control the nano-scale morphology and optimizing the solar cell performance for practical use.
