More Efficient Thin-Film Solar Cells From Ascent Solar

Solar cells technology is getting more and more advanced and that’s the way it should be because they are way to produce renewable energy which means that the Earth will be cleaner. Nobody can’t deny that solar cells are good, but the efficiency has been a problem since they were developed first time. Now, a company called Ascent Solar Technologies is trying to develop a new generation of more efficient solar cells.
The funding for this project comes from the U.S. Air Force that needs to further develop a technique consisting of a flexible and thin tandem solar cell which is destined to secure a conversion efficiency of 20 percent. The tandem solar cell consists of two solar cells sitting one on top of the other. They are positioned like this because each collects energy from different “sections” of the solar spectrum.
The deal between the Air Force and the Ascent Solar hasn’t been finalized yet, but the solar cell manufacturer hopes that they will receive another $750,000 in funding in order to complete their research. Ascent Solar Technologies already announced that they are very happy that they have the chance to enter into the Phase II of the project and they hope that will finish the development very soon.
