Lost Tribe Discovered At Brazilian Border

By Nick May 31, 2008

Shocking images of a lost village discovered at the Brazilian-Peruvian border display members of a lost tribe, with red and black painted bodies, aiming their bows at the helicopter that took the pictures. The National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) from Brazil stated they had known of the tribe of over 20 years, but they published the photos just now to ‘raise the alarm over the risk threatening them’.

The tribe located in thick rainforest near the Peruvian border had been pushed out of Peruvian territory into Brazil by loggers cutting down Amazon’s forests. The FUNAI officials say that illegal deforestation has accelerated in the past few years, and that the small community should be protected by not getting in contact with them.

Until recently, the Peruvian government did not admit the existence of the tribe, but they were now put in front of the evidence. So far, there hasn’t been made any physical contact with the indigenous, and they will be isolated in order to be protected.
