In Vitro Meat Might Save The Environment

Cattle Farm

Every year are compiled reports about the meat industry and all of them show that it’s a danger for our planet. From the meat industry the most pointed at are the cattle, they release CO2, greenhouse gases, they require large areas for raising the animals and to provide them food. This industry pollutes even more then the whole transportation sector and another thing against it, is the animal suffering.

Researchers from the In Vitro Meat Consortium are working on a “formula” in order to make meat from muscle tissue. The in vitro meat will be produced in labs and it will be similar to those made of soy and gluten, but it will be healthier and no animals will be hurt.

Until now two things are certain - no animals will suffer and the environment will not be affected, but there are some concerns about the in vitro meat. The lab-meat must have the same quality as regular meat and should not have any adverse effects for the human body, therefore more research has to be made.

The first who made research about the in vitro meat was M.A. Benjaminson from Toure College, other studies were made in 2004 by the New Harvest organization and in April 2005 the Dutch Government allocated 2 million€ for studies made by Henk Haagsman at the University of Amsterdam.

For this one I will not express any thoughts because it wouldn’t be fair for the animals.
