Greenest Cars 2008 Lists: Kelley Blue Book vs. ACEEE Green Book
By Nick July 31, 2008
Prices are making green vehicles attractive nationwide finally with their fuel savings. And you know that green, eco friendly vehicles are here to stay when an age old, slow moving company like Kelley Blue Book launches a new green segment of its website KBB Green. With the launch of the Kelley Blue Book Green, they also released a list of the top 10 greenest vehicles. But how does this match up with the previous leading green book by ACEEE (American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy)?

The lists of the greenest 2008 cars are slightly different, and here they are.
| Kelley Blue Book Top Green Vehicles 2008: | ACEEE Greenbook Greenest Vehicles 2008 | ||
| 1 | Toyota Prius | 1 | Honda Civic GX |
| 2 | Honda Civic Hybrid | 2 | Toyota Prius |
| 3 | Smart fortwo | 3 | Honda Civic Hybrid |
| 4 | Nissan Altima Hybrid | 4 | Smart Fortwo |
| 5 | Mini Cooper | 5 | Toyota Yaris |
| 6 | Ford Escape Hybrid | 6 | Nissan Altima Hybrid |
| 7 | Honda Fit | 7 | Toyota Corolla |
| 8 | Mercedes-Benz E320 BLUETEC | 8 | Mini Cooper Clubman |
| 9 | Toyota Highlander Hybrid | 9 | Ford Focus |
| 10 | Chevy Tahoe Hybrid | 10 | Toyota Camry Hybrid |
| 11 | Honda Civic | ||
| 12 | Honda Fit |
The lists obviously share a variety of overlapping vehicles, but one notable difference is that the KBB Green list is based on miles per gallon and mixes in SUVs to cover all vehicle classes, while the ACEEE green book is based on the overall green score of a vehicle that comes from its emissions class and miles per gallon.
With green, fuel efficient vehicles here to stay, you can count on domestic automakers Ford and General Motors making a much stronger push in the very near future with their drastic shift away from SUVs and trucks to fuel efficient small cars by both Ford and General Motors.
