Global Warming Diminish Polar Bear’s Habitat
By Nick December 15, 2007
Global warming is set to make another victim. Lately, the polar bear number has decreased from a population of 1600-2200 to about 965. The seals are bear’s favorite meal. The bears hunt them when the seals come to take a breath to the surface. The bears need to hunt when the ice is thick enough to endure their weight. As a consequence of global warming the hunting season was reduced with three weeks from the spring. During this time of the year the seals give birth to their puppies who are easier marks, therefore the bears can’t gather up sufficient weight to get through hibernation season.
To collect more food, the polar bears began to enter cities resulting in an increased number of tourists who hope to get a sight of them before they are extincted. The animals are simply looking for food. The bears spotted by the locals are skinnier than they should be. Environmentalists hope that this will give a signal to the world of the potential effects of the global warming.
