Florida to be Powered by Underwater Turbines
By Nick December 13, 2007

After solar, wind and geothermal powers made a lot of fuss, the time came for oceans. Environmentalists and Scientists found another way of producing environmental-friendly energy, by placing turbines in the oceans. The Center of Excellence in Ocean Energy technology from Florida Atlantic University are planning to place 20 kilowatt 100 foot diameter turbines anchored to the oceans floor.
The turbines will be monitored by control buoys, also powered by environmental-friendly energy and small vessels and will be hooked to floating generators. First tests will be made in the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic, with smaller prototype turbines and should be held in February, next year. Currently, it is unsure how much power they can generate, but the tests will tell for sure.
Hopefully, this type of energy production will prove to be cheap and productive, so we can make another step in our way to a clean environment.
