Floating Turbines To Solve Impasse Over Wind farm
By Nick March 28, 2008

A technological solution might finally solve the fight for the Cape Cod offshore wind farm. Cape Wind, the company that first came up with the idea of an offshore wind farm in the area, initially wanted to use standard turbines. But the owners of properties near the beach don’t want the landscape to be affected by the industrial element.

Blue H, a subsidiary of a Dutch company, announced this week its intentions of building 120 floating wind turbines 23 miles off Martha’s Vineyard,in deep water, and required government approval to install a test turbine. The only problem is that nobody can know for sure if the wind farms will work on such deep waters.
If they will work, the conflict will be solvedĀ as the companies will still get their wind turbines, and the beachfront property owners won’t have to look at the spinning blades all day, the contrivances being far from everyone’s eyes.
