By Nick March 21, 2008

The fever of a green city has won the favor of China. Everybody knows that China is developing very fast and they are always looking to bring new technologies or ideas. Now the Chinese government has a plan to build a green city on the island of Chongming. The eco-city will be called Dongtan and it has been designed by ARUP, a British company.
ARUP has signed a partnership with Shanghai Industrial Investment Corporation and the city will be developed by a team of 100 people. The negative impact on the environment will be kept at minimum, the energy will be generated from its resources and all the waste will be recycled.
Dongtan is scheduled for opening in 2010 and it will provide shelter and work places for about 50,000 people and by 2040 this eco-city will have one-third the size of Manhattan. Also, Dongtan will compete against Masdar City for the “greenest city in the world” title. Video of Dongtan EcoCity after the jump.
