Ausra’s Solar-Thermal Power PlantWe never said that it’s cheap to develop and design solar power plants. Ausra a solar-thermal equipment manufacturer which hopes to receive many finances from various investors. According to Glen Davis, exdecutive vice-president of Ausra, the solar-thermal systems are 30 up to 40 percent cheaper than solar photo-voltaic power plants and are more efficient.

The company hopes to receive more money to take their projects to the next step because they need about $100-$150 million to buy material and manufacture equipment. They received $30 million and currently they are in discussions for a $15 million fee from original investors like Khosla Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Even though the things are not looking so good for them, they managed to sing a deal for building a 177 megawatt solar-thermal power plant in order to supply electricity for Pacific Gas & Electric, California. Also they are negotiating for 1,000 megawatts of production and are preparing for 6,000 megawatts.

Ausra’s plans are big - even though they will make its own power plants for the moment and it sell electricity to utilities, they will sell their equipment to other companies and in the next few years they will receive 2/3 of its finances from equipment sales. Also they will build a storage-component for their power plants which is scheduled to be finished next year.

Their ideas are not bad and they seem to gain a lot of fans and we hope they will provide energy for the entire planet.
