The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) from China has announced that they are planning to build 97 new airportsĀ by 2020. That means in 2010 there will be 192 airports in China, and they are planning to reach 244 by 2020.
At this point, China has 147 airports, of which 45 are used for military and civilian purposes. Building the new airports will cost $64 billion, which is an enormous amount for the Chinese economy, but once they are completed, 81% of the population will be at most 100 km of an airport. The concerning fact is that planes emit many pollutants , and these airports are expected to have quite an impact on the global pollution level.
