Toshiba Carbon ZeroToshiba seems to offer a great deal for laptop buyers and people that want to help the world get greener, but just seems. Well, Toshiba promises that for any laptop bought, they’ll plant a tree. Of course, i forgot to say you have to pay £1.18 more for the laptop, if you want to help the environment.

They are making an environment campaign and want to offset the emissions the laptop produces by the planted tree, buy they aren’t going to invest a penny in this campaign, but getting the money from customers. That’s a bit too lame, i’d say.

WindmillThere’s a lot of fuss around alternative energy, developed from solar, geothermal and wind power, but now there are some scientists that say too many windmills might affect global weather. So we are fighting to get windmills to reduce pollution and stop global warming, but they might do other harms to the planet. It seems like if there were windmills planet on 10% of the planet, they would affect global weather.
We might find out later that also the use of solar and geothermal or other alternative power causes, but hopefully they won’t, because those kind of energies look like our saviors.

Google renewable energy

Google has announced it’s plans to use alternative ways of energy production, other than coal. They are planning to use renewable energy sources, like wind, geothermal and solar power. The main two reasons they are doing this is to reduce production costs and to protect the environment.

Also, they don’t seem to use current technologies, but develop new ones and will invest tens of million in research. It will probably be a good investment for them, thinking of their datacenter size and that they could then sell it or put it on mass production.

It’s a good thing another big company is thinking about the environment and will take measures to protect it.

MagLev Wind Turbine

A new power generating technology has been developed, the Maglev Win Turbine, 1000 times more efficient than conventional windmills and it’s already planned to be implemented in China and the US. Fortunately, it has low operating costs and is environmental-friendly, while it produces cheap energy. In comparison with conventional turbines, Maglev’s operational costs are reduced to 50%, has an increased capacity by 20%, a lifetime of 500 years, can use winds from 1.5 m/s to 40 m/s and can produce one gigawatt of power, while the conventional ones can only produce 5 megawatts.

Hopefully the polluting power generators will be replaced by the new Maglev Turbine, so we can make one more step to a clean environment.

Greenhouse gas emissionThe Us Department of Energy and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government funded a study that demonstrates we are not even close to resolving the global warming issue, due to gas emission, that might even grow in the next 50 years, faster that it did in the past 50, according to the study. The economists that conducted the study, Sue Wing ( Boston University ) and Richard Eckaus ( MIT ) examined the 1958 to 1996 and 1980 to 1996 periods and then projected the 2000 to 2050 period to see the growth rates of greenhouse gas and energy use. Unfortunately, their researched shows the rates are growing, so we should take some better measures.

Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a good solution to our problem. Their idea was to increase energy price, but that would drive us to a economic issue. So we desperately need to focus on environmental-friendly products and energy.
